INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Suzie Black
Suzie Black blends her background of traditional painting with the freedom and energy of abstract expressionism.
She received her formal training with advanced degrees in both Art Therapy and Art Education at George Washington University and the Corcoran School of Art. Although Suzie taught art to children in public schools and evening classes to adults for many years, she continued painting and always knew that she would return to her love full time.
Suzie and her husband, Dave spend long summers in Kentucky as a break from the desert heat in Arizona. After putting in many years as a figurative painter, following an even longer stint as a landscape painter, Suzie has developed a love and deep interest in abstraction.
“My greatest influences were, the abstract expressionists and expressionist portrait painters including Diebenkorn, Julien Freud and Egan Schiele. I’m extremely attracted to art that’s brimming with emotion, rhythm and pulsing life.”
Black dedicates herself to lifelong learning and teaching all ages.
