Double your fun in this dual-medium workshop. The morning will begin with an assemblage -making workshop led by Josh Adair, associate professor of English at Murray State. Participants should arrive with 5-7 small--think fits in the palm of your hand--items that have some meaning for them. MAG will provide wooden cigar boxes to serve as a backdrop for your fantastic creation. Josh will talk to you about his theories of composition and juxtaposition and help guide you into creating an assemblage uniquely your own.
In the afternoon session, Carrie Jerrell, poet and associate professor of Creative Writing at Murray State, will discuss strategies for ekphrastic writing (creative writing that responds to other art forms), and participants will spend time writing about each other's assemblages. Each participant will end the day with an assemblage, a poem written in response to their assemblage, and a poem they've written in response to another participants's work of art
