before the storm

I’d been collecting

summer’s skeletons

nature’s leftovers

left over the land

to begin again

the winds came

blew so much away

there was a great pause

I wondered

Why make art if it can all blow away?

but things we almost lost

are just not lost yet

I wanted to make a map

charting this little island

my yard—the largest room in my home

arranging small histories of overlooked scenes

space becoming place

in this living room
